Authors rely on strong visual branding just as much as any other professional. Whether appearing on book covers speaking engagements or media interviews, a professional portrait helps introduce the author to their audience.

As a Calgary headshot photographer, I enjoy working with writers speakers and creative professionals who want portraits that reflect their personality and their work.

Calgary author, Lori Hahnel joined me in studio for celebratory headshots.  A recent grant nomination and book deal created the need for fresh headshots as well as promoting her work on social media.

We chatted about writing process, music, family and Lori’s writing plans for the future which include a comprehensive trip to Germany. Inspiration and reference abroad!

Author headshot sessions often include a variety of looks so the images can be used across different platforms. Some photos may feel polished and professional for press materials while others feel relaxed and personal for websites or social media.

The goal is always to create images that feel authentic while still maintaining a professional presentation.

Working with authors is always interesting because every session reflects a different voice and story.
