What People Get Wrong About Headshots

Calgary Headshot Photographer

There are a lot of assumptions about headshots and most of them are wrong.

As a Calgary headshot photographer, I meet clients every day who arrive with the same concerns. They think the session will feel awkward, that they won’t know what to do or that the final images will feel stiff and unnatural.

The reality is something very different.

If you are thinking about updating your images you can learn more about Professional Headshots Calgary here:

“I’m Not Photogenic”

This is one of the most common things I hear.

The truth is, being photogenic is not something you are or are not. It is about lighting, direction and creating a comfortable environment.

My job is to guide you through the session so you feel relaxed and confident. When that happens, your natural expression comes through and that is what makes a great headshot.

“Headshots Are Stiff and Boring”

Many people base their expectations on past experiences where they were given little direction and asked to stand still and smile.

That is not how I work.

My sessions are quick, easy and conversational. There is movement, adjustment and constant guidance so the images feel natural and full of personality.

“I Won’t Know What to Do”

You are not expected to.

Every part of the session is guided. From posture to expression to small details, I walk you through everything step by step.

You never have to guess.

“I Only Need One Good Photo”

This is one of the biggest misconceptions.

Modern professionals need more than one image. Your headshots are used across websites, social media, marketing materials and speaking engagements.

That is why I provide a full gallery of images so you can choose what works best for different platforms and update your brand over time.

“I Need to Feel Confident First”

Most clients arrive feeling rushed or a little nervous.

That is completely normal.

What surprises people is how quickly that feeling shifts. By the end of the session, clients are relaxed, laughing and often say they had a lot more fun than they expected.

Headshots That Actually Work for You

A strong headshot is not just about looking professional. It is about creating a sense of connection.

When someone sees your photo, it should feel like they already know you. It should communicate trust, approachability and expertise.

That is what helps attract the right clients and support your business.
